  • A 500-word essay on the relationship of the mind and body to health


Frequently asked questions

  1. OMA number and password are needed to complete the online application. OMA number is issued with an OMA membership. Apply for a student membership or to renew your membership. Allow two to three business days for processing. The OMF and OMA offices will be closed from Dec 24, 2024 to Jan 2, 2025.  The OMA membership application will be unavailable during this time.

    2. Application. Online application link will open Dec. 1, 2024.

    3. Cover letter.  A 500-word cover letter is required for all applications. Cover letter should detail which bursaries you are applying for, and how you meet the criteria for each bursary, and may also include details of your journey to medical school, your accomplishments, hobbies or interests.

    4. Proof of enrolment. Issued by your medical school during the current academic year. Offer letters and out-of-date or unsigned proof of enrolment letters are not accepted.

    Additional requirements:
    Some named bursaries require additional documentation such as an Academic Standing Form or essay. Please review the descriptions and criteria listed for each named bursary carefully.   

    Applications missing required documents or otherwise incomplete will not be considered.

Students enrolled in one of the six Ontario medical school programs:

  • Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, McMaster University
  • Northern Ontario School of Medicine
  • Queen’s University School of Medicine
  • Schulich School of Medicine, Western University
  • Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto
  • University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine

Confirmation of enrolment in current academic year signed by representative of university admissions office. Letters of acceptance do not qualify as proof of enrolment.

Medical students can apply for multiple bursaries, provided they meet the criteria outlined for each bursary. When completing the online application form, select only the bursaries you qualify for. Please click each named bursary for more details on the criteria required.

The online application form is available annually from late fall to the end of January.

The OMF will notify selected recipients by email by June 30, 2023.
