Making a difference in the Unblock the Barriers campaign
Thank you for supporting the OMF
Thank you to the OMF's 166 donors who helped raise $46,611 to Unblock the Barriers and advance health equity across the province.
We are pleased to announce that funds raised will help support the following community investments:
- Supporting 21 local Shoebox Project chapters across the province that assisted 340 women, including Indigenous women and those living in remote areas.
- A donation of 100 shoeboxes filled with essential and comfort items, assembled during the OMA General Assembly meeting in Ottawa in November. These shoeboxes were given to women in need in the Ottawa region.
- Doubling OMF’s 2024 investment to assist rural and remote students with travel costs to attend CampMed 2025 in Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
- Investment in OMF’s Bright Futures fund to support Black, Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ medical students.
Your contributions will help to fund:
Women’s Hope
In honour of Dr. Elana Fric and Keira Kagan, the OMF Women’s Hope fund helps women who are living in shelters, on the streets or in other under-housed situations throughout Ontario. We will support local Shoebox Project chapters to help women in need with basic living essentials, food and comfort items.
Bright Futures
The OMF Bright Futures fund supports programs like CampMed — a summer camp that inspires high school students to consider a future as a health-care professional — in northern communities. Funds are also used to support Black and Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, as well as northern and rural/remote students who wish to study medicine.
Where It’s Needed Most
To support the OMF General Fund, where it’s needed most helps us work to build a more equitable, effective and efficient health-care system for everyone in Ontario.
“Thank you so very much for helping me towards realizing my fullest potential.” — 2024 OMF bursary recipient, Elliott W.
“I felt like I was a child and Santa sent me this gift to me when I needed it so much, and I felt that I’m not alone, as there are people who don't even know me, but they care and spread love and kindness that change my world and the others to the better. Thank you!” — 2023 Shoebox Project donation recipient
“The gift I got from the Shoebox Project made me feel valued and made me feel like I mattered. Thanks to the Shoebox Project, I was gifted self-care products. I was able to take a day to myself to take care of myself with the gifts I received and I will always be grateful for that. It reminded me why it’s important to take a day to care for myself.” — 2023 Shoebox Project donation recipient
“Your generous bursary, provided by the OMSBF, was not only immensely helpful but also served as a powerful source of motivation to persevere in pursuing my medical education and specialization.” — 2024 OMF bursary recipient, Kesikan J.
“Thanks to the funding that the Ontario Medical Foundation provided, I was able to pay for my travel and accommodation expenses, the funding was especially appreciated as I live approximately 529 kilometres away and have no immediate family in Sudbury!” — Jordan, 16, who received support to attend CampMed in 2024
